Mitigating Mental Health Microaggressions

You are here

Sunday, June 25 / 8:30 am to 10:00 am

Microaggressions are subtle, often unintended, communications that send negative messages to an individual of a marginalized group. Research indicates that providers and caregivers unknowingly, but frequently, perpetuate mental health-related microaggressions which can lead to increased stigma, client distress, and loss of social support. An interdisciplinary team of presenters will help attendees identify, learn the consequences of, and prevent common mental health-related microaggressions.  Emphasis will be placed on creating an interactive environment of learning through guided imagery, simulations, and group discussions.  This workshop will help to create a more empowering, supportive, and collaborative community for clients and providers in psychosocial rehabilitation.
