Peer Coaches Promoting Academic Success for College Students

You are here

Sunday, June 25 / 8:30 am to 10:00 am

Young adults with MHC make up a growing percentage of students on college campuses, yet they continually struggle academically and have one of the highest dropout rates of any disability group. This workshop will describe findings from a qualitative study that paints an intimate picture of academic barriers college students face from the perspective of young adult college students, faculty, and Disability and Counseling Services staff. This workshop will also describe an innovative peer-to-peer academic coaching intervention designed to mitigate challenges identified in our research findings. A discussion on strategies to support college students with MHC will also be included.
