Highly Lauded Educator and Trainer, Veronica Carey, PhD, CPRP, to Chair the Academy

(McLean, VA, September 9, 2013) -- Among the strategic initiatives announced at the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association’s (PRA) 2013 Annual Conference was the Fall 2013 launch of the Academy of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Recovery, designed to accelerate PRA’s mission to grow and train the recovery workforce. In support of this launch, PRA is pleased to announce the appointment of Veronica Carey, PhD, CPRP, a highly lauded educator, trainer and subject matter expert in all phases of psychiatric rehabilitation, to serve as Chair of the Academy.

Effective September 1, Veronica Carey, PhD, CPRP, began her service as Academy Chair, working in concert with PRA’s headquarters staff and volunteer leaders on an aggressive plan that will deliver a portfolio of skills training, continuing education and leadership enhancement opportunities to practitioners, managers and executives involved in psychiatric rehabilitation. Dr. Carey retains her continuing role as Assistant Clinical Professor with Drexel University while also participating on PRA’s Certification Commission for Psychiatric Rehabilitation.

“Dr. Carey is a widely respected educator and trainer in psychiatric rehabilitation and mental health and brings to her role as Academy Chair a keen global strategic perspective grounded with pragmatic knowledge of curriculum design focused on addressing market needs,” said Dori Hutchinson, ScD, L.R.C., PRA’s Chair-Elect with primary volunteer leadership oversight for Academy rollout. “We are confident that this collaboration will result in a mix of live and virtual program offerings that will establish the PRA Academy as the ‘go-to’ provider of best-in-market information, education and training for the psychiatric rehabilitation community and collateral services.” 

Among Dr. Carey’s first actions as Academy Chair will be to appoint members to an Academy Advisory Council, subject to final PRA Board approval. Also slated is an ambitious schedule of Fall 2013 and 2014 programs, which is already in advanced development and will soon be announced.
